Times, they are a-changing

I don't talk about my personal life here, other than how it might impact my reading experience, because this is about the books, not about me. However, my personal life is now impacting in other ways, so I don't have a choice but to bring it up.

As of today, I will not be posting regular reviews for an indefinite period of time. I have two children, both in elementary school, both quite active. I've driven myself a little insane some months trying to stick to a regular posting schedule, and while I love it, certain things have developed over the past year, coming to a head this summer, that are going to infringe on my free time even more. My children come first.

I might be able to get back to a regular schedule in the future, but I can't predict now when that's going to happen. Life is too fickle. I can, however, say that I'm going to be doing the occasional review for Three Dollar Bill Reviews, and those reviews will show up here afterward. I also plan on writing reviews for books that really inspire me to do so. I just can't say when that'll happen.

Whoops, sorry for the deletion.

The very best of luck to you, Book Utopia. Although it's rather depressing that two of the best online book reviewers (you and Jenre) have pulled back from regular postings, life does come first.

Thank you for the intelligence and professionalism of your reviews. I look forward to seeing more of your work on TDBR.

Now go tend to those kids! ;-)

I'm so sorry to hear that you're pulling back on the reviewing. I've enjoyed reading them, especially because of their thoughtfulness, specificity, and sincerity. I know how it is with two children in the house and I hope that you find balance. Perhaps once they start school in the fall you'll find the time to post once in a while.

Dear BookUtopia,

I wish you the best. Even though you weren't totally thrilled with my first book (The Phoenix)I appreciated the clarity and honestly of the review! In fact, I took some of your observations and applied them to the one I was working on at the time, which is now available. I was hoping to coax you into reviewing Counterpoint: Dylan's Story, from Dreamspinner.

Perhaps when your life has evened out and the children are less needful (I raised two, close together so I know how it is)I can make a concerted coaxing attempt.

May your road be smooth ahead of you.

Wishing you good things,

Ruth Sims
